Today is Logan’s birthday. As soon as he woke up and came into our room, he said, “Mom, I’m 5.” Very solemn and quietly proud. When I responded, “Happy birthday, sweetie! You’re so big today!”, he said, “Thank you, Mommy, that was very nice of you!” after a short pause, during which he studied his feet, he said, “I’m not sure if my feet are a little bigger today.”
Just had to jot down a few things before I forgot them:
While talking the other day about when Dylan was just a baby, Logan paused and said, “Daphne wasn’t anything at all. She was just a glass of water.”
Dylan’s finally entered the demon phase of toddlerhood. He spends every waking moment stalking his little sister, knocking her down, hitting her, kicking her, smothering her, and sweeping her legs out from under her. It’s all I can do to keep from selling him at the flea market. Today, at Logan’s Spring Sing, he was so mad that he was sitting in the audience instead of singing onstage, that he kept yelling, “I DON’T LIKE THIS SONG” and “I’M NOT SAYING YAY” and “I DON’T WANT TO SING NOTHING” and “STOP” at the kids.
The boys have really been into superheroes lately, and wear their Superman capes all the time. The trouble is, they have only one kind of cape and many kinds of super roles to play. Logan gets really mad if he’s trying to be Larry Boy and ingnorant strangers come up and say “Hi Superman.” Dylan came running into the kitchen last week in his diaper and cape, clutching his Captain Underpants doll and said, “Look, Mommy! I’m SUPERPANTS!”
Oh yeah, I forgot to talk about the kids. I was just in the living room, explaining very calmly to our oldest what I thought was a very convenient method of cooperation. In exchange for purchasing, storing and caretaking all of Logan’s toys, he could put them away once in a while. Smug and cheerful, I sat down at the computer. Five, four, three, two, knock on the door. It’s Logan.
“Mommy, I didn’t know what to put away. I just looked and looked at the toys and didn’t know what to put away. So I only looked at them.”
