Me, Me, MeAfter I sent my three prodigies off to school today, I came home to relax and read. One of the first things I read was this perky little comment:
I’M APPALLED BY THE LACK OF ARTISTIC ABILITY! THAT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE PICASSO’S “CHILD WITH A DOVE”! QUIT TRYING TO MAKE IT SEEM AS IF YOUR CHILD IS A PRODIGY, BECAUSE HE’S NOT AN ARTISTIC GENIUS LIKE ME!

Darn it. How deflating. She left only an AOL address. I was expecting one more like (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or even (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Subject: Your thoughtful commentHi Ezzzmeerlduh,
Your comment was there a little while before I noticed it, and I don’t usually respond to comments, but yours got my attention. You don’t seem to get the point of the blog or the album. It’s just a record of the kids’ lives. I don’t pretend anyone’s a genius. In fact, I asked his teacher what the hell he was doing with this one.
As with all things, there are balancing opinions; an art historian came by and left me a rather long analysis of this drawing and she had a vastly different opinion than yours. And she was much nicer, too.
Good luck with your genius. I am sure it will serve you well. Keep on spreading that sunshine.
Best,
Mindy
P.S. Your caps lock key is on.
Well, would you look at that. My email was returned. No such user.

Oh my God!!! I can’t stop laughing. What a moron. I love your response.
Don’t you just wish people with no sense of humor would bug off?

How rude. I’m hoping it was a child and not an adult that left the nasty comment.

Maybe they were kidding?

Maybe they were kidding…but they are clearly clueless. Great response Mindy!

well there’s a happy go lucky sort of soul.

nothing bolsters a diseased ego better than sneering at a child, I find. or better yet, both the child and its mother.

Some people have NO sense of humour. Notice that the rude, obnoxious ones don’t have the courtesy to leave a real way to contact them.

Here’s a thought: Read another blog—like tweakedandravinggeniuses.com—and bug someone else for a change. I’m a fine arts major, and the closest I’ve heard to that comment is catty sniping at a student show that got more attention than the catty remarker’s show (meow!)

Either insane or a joke that didn’t come off very well. It made me think of this site:

If we don’t think our children are geniuses who will? Old Esse is a putz.

Yup, what the art historian teacher said. Ten different people can look at something and interpret it ten different ways. What he drew is how HE interpreted it.

I think every other letter of your e-mail should have been capitalized. Just to make her go blind….

I wish I could say my secret word it ‘BITCH’!! But it’s not… it’s ‘moral’. Hmmmm… But I am drunk… (imagine that)... again… *grin*

GGGGRRRR…How rude. (of her that is)
