Me, Me, MeI’ve just attended the most amazing dinner with some of Silicon Valley’s most creative and dynamic minds. Thirty women, a metric ton of determination, walnut shrimp, and pot stickers. What’s not to love?
In addition to meeting many women I’d love to get to know better (collaboration sparks were flying), I came away with lots to noodle over. Some of the noodling, I did there. At one point I asked for a show of hands. How many are comfortable with what they’re doing and not looking for the next, big thing? I was stunned when fully three quarters of the room raised hands. Blown away. And impressed. Impressed that so many could be comfortable, and yet make the effort to be plugged in to a network that almost certainly will propel many into the next, big thing. It just screamed “confidence.”
The other pearl that got my attention was something one woman said during her intro: “When you reach the moment of commitment, that’s when the Universe conspires to support and help you.” That’s when the Universe conspires. How many times have we (I) felt that everything and everyone had conspired against us (me)? It struck me as no small coincidence that I heard this quote just as I was realizing that something was conspiring with me, whispering with me, moving barriers aside, opening up vistas, causing the road to rise up. For the first time in too many years, I feel as though everything is golden, possible, manageable, achievable. I am fully charged and onto the next, big thing, which turns out to be the old thing, dusted-off and brightly polished. I am fired. Up.
