FedsMayMakeBloggersLiableInReviews

CBS came by to interview me about the FTC (never saw THAT coming, did you? Any of you. Admit it.) and their potential ruling to make bloggers responsible for what they pitch. REALLY? Well, then. Those with integrity have nothing to worry about!

Simon’s a doll. I must have yammered for thirty minutes and he was so patient. Loved the camera man - almost had to duck to get into the house.

Feds May Make Bloggers Liable In Reviews

The Federal Trade Commission is thinking about changing the law so bloggers who exaggerate the benefits or flaws of a product could be liable or sued. Simon Perez reports.

Why, yes, that is my living room!

So much for our constitutional rights and freedom of speech. Leave it up to them to have one more thing that they control. Unfortunate really.

I’m not fond of it, but I’m not surprised either.  As a nation we’ve moved in the direction of more regulations based on who we’ve elected over the past few cycles.

Look at the lead law Congress passed so easily last August and the effect it’s having/going to have on products made for children.  It was one of the top 10 issues on Change.org and yet I’ve seen no action on it at the Congressional level.

Or what about the new food safety law that’s been proposed?  No joke, they want to regulate food grown in your own back yard for your own consumption.  How would you like to be forced to use chemicals in your own garden instead of growing organic?  And yes, the spouse of the politician who authored the law works for Monsanto.

Fun, eh?

I’m always honest in my reviews, but really, they are going to try and SUE people because they don’t like what’s being said (or don’t agree it’s truthful enough??)? What’s next? Are the feds going to follow me around and slap a censored sticker on my mouth when I give my opinion of things to a friend too?

I guess as long as you are being up front, truthful and honest then you have nothing to worry about.  I just seams ridiculous as people are entitled to their own opinion and how can you police that.
