WeblogsLet it never be said that you have to tell me something four times!
This week, no fewer than three readers have mentioned the little scripty thingy over there——> that tells you how many times you’ve visited this blog. It seems they were a little self-conscious about how many times they’ve been here, and either felt like they should be paying more attention to thier jobs (utter nonsense) or that they were stalking me (don’t I wish).
For the record: you are the only one who can see how many times you’ve visited. I can’t see it, or if there is a way for me to find it out, I am too lazy and unskilled to figure out how to do it. Anyone who comes sees their own stats, and only their own.
Just to put you at ease, as of this moment, I myself have been to my own blog… holy shit, I can’t believe I am about to admit to this… 1,225 times. *cringes*
Well, *cough* there was a LOT of tinkering with the design, and setup, and… oh, fuck. I’m a total loser, OK? Gah.
So, I have two questions for you:
1. Is the visit count script more annoying than amusing or helpful?
2. While we’re at it, would readers prefer to open links in a new window? Or have a checkbox on this page that gives you the option? It will check for a cookie and then either open in a new window or not, according to your preference.
We are nothing if not customer service-oriented here at The Mommy Blog! Don’t forget to pick up a t-shirt on the way out!
P.S. I just bought my poor husband the shirt that says, “Please don’t blog this” on the front, and “I’m beggin’ you” on the back. After I made the tshirt, I liked the idea so much, I made a thong with the same design! *snicker*

Whatever YOU seem to do on this blog of yours is great. Your site is fun to read and is clean/fresh in every aspect. I have visited 38 times since I deleted my cookies. (not going to tell ya when that was). A little box with a preference to check if you want a window to open separately would be nice. (I want that code, along with many you have here, drop downs, adding a backgound image and etc.)
Keep up what you are doing… It is treat to visit. :-)

I really like the “# other(s) currently marvelling at my mothering skills” script. hehe
The other things you mentioned I didn’t really notice until now, whatever is easiest for you. :)

I agree. Despite the recent turn of events, or maybe becuase of it, I come back to your site—like my yearn for an issue of US Magazine. Not to equate the literary excellence and quips and wit of your site with the cheezy gab of US mag, but more like the need to read it.
Oh, the counter script.. It could go. Besides, it always tells me I’ve been here (1) times. And, I know I’ve been spending more time here than than that rather than looking for a job.
Links: Open in a new window please.

i like links that open in a new window ... i don’t give people the option on my page. they always open in a new window. that way they can always come back to me ... me me ME!

The count script doesn’t/can’t take into account (ha!! acCOUNT! get it??) that I log on from two different computers—one at work and one at home.
Not that that matters at all. I’m just saying. The number of times each person has commented feels like a competition though. Not that that matters either. I’m just saying. Again.

oh also… shift + click in IE opens links in a new window :)

Okay computer geniuses, what’s the code to get all the links to open in a new window? (Please tell me I don’t have to recode all my links…)

I must have my cookies set wrong for it, as I always see that I’ve been here 1 time. I also prefer when new windows open with links.
I use Opera as a browser though, so not everything works properly for me.
Not sure on the code for setting the whole page though. I’d like to know that myself.

You have to add a target=“_blank” to href tag. You can also put some javascript on your page instead of re-coding everything. But really, all browsers have the ability to open links in new windows so it’s more of an end-user issue. Holding down the shift key while clicking works in most browsers I believe. For PC users, right clicking and selecting open in new window works too.

I enjoy your page and as far as how many times I’ve been here, the counter reads 38. I used to come in throughout the day but now I feel like a stalker so I only come in once a day. It would be great to open links in a new window. I click over then back and the counter goes up again! ARGH! I always think that you’re saying “who is this yvet girl and why is she here so often”. Then again, I’m just paranoid that way.

LOL, my IP address is #1 on the list of visits on my own blog. I think everyone is that way ;) I like links to open in a new window, I do the target=“_blank” on all my links, but I’m gonna automate that someday. The counter script is kinda neat I think, but I’m a site-gadget freak. Mine says 104 btw. Does that make me a stalker?

I like checking out how many times I have visited your site. I don’t class myself as a stalker - just someone who is hugely entertained by your blog that I can’t get enough of it.
I like links to open in a new window so whilst the link is downloading, I can continue reading your blog (time management skills coming into focus here).

I am Ellen and I AM a stalker.

it’s to the point where I’m flattered to be mentioned so, in good conscience, I can’t wear my new shirt. How on God’s Green Earth will all those words fit onto a thong?
