Family
FamilyI have not yet mastered the art of not asking people what they think.
Logan was dressing for baseball practice today, and asked as he skidded to a stop in the kitchen, “Is this shirt too small?”
I responded, “Nope. Is this dress too big?” I had on a new summer shift from J.Crew and had been considering throwing away what’s in my closet and just wearing it for the rest of my life. I like it.
Phil asked, “What are you talking about?”
“My dress. It feels a little big. Is it the right size, you think?”
“I don’t know how it’s supposed to look…”
“It’s a dress.”
“It looks like a muu muu.”

I didn’t think it was a funny thing at the time or understand what you were driving at while I was there, but after reading this I get it—It is pretty funny the way you wrote about it!

Ouch. That is a cute dress. Never ask.
I can’t wear things like that. I’ve become the skort queen. Shorts look terrible on me but a skirt is okay.

Yikes. Not the answer you were looking for! :) I like the dress though—very summery.
Last Christmas I wore a top that showed a bit of cleavage—not much at all but a little. We were getting together with family that day and my oldest daughter asks, “Mommy, are you going to wear that shirt today?”
“Yes, why?”
“Because I don’t think you should be showing those to Grandpa.”
OK—not the reaction I was expecting on my new holiday outfit! :)

Well, at least he’s familiar with cultural clothing like muu muus! I say, if you like it, and feel pretty in it, wear it.

I had this same problem with a JCrew dress. Oh, how I loved that hastily-trashed-after-someone asked-if-I-was-pregnant dress.
The models always look so happy wearing them.

Isn’t it impossible to know how you look in something?
Sometimes I come home and I love some great item I just bought and then I look in the mirror and wonder “WHAT WAS I THINKING?!”

I was just told I needed a haircut and clothes that didn’t make me look like a mommy last weekend at a cocktail party…AT MY HOUSE! Maybe we should start teaching that, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all,” rule again. Best friends would be exempt, though, so that you could shop with them and still get advice…when you ask for it.

grrrrr, betcha wouldn’t care if that “muu-muu” was on the floor.
(did I just say that?)

Aw, it’s cute. But I have to say the first thing I thought of when I heard the word “shift” was “muu muu”. Do you notice how the model is angled just so so it almost looks defining in the photo? That was probably the too big part you were feeling.

Snort- That’s hilarious!

I’ve learned to just not ask…
