MerryChristmas,everyone

Thank you for sharing your time and stories with me this year… It’s certainly rewarding to keep a record of our young family’s life, but the real rewards are in the friendships forged, the exchanges that start in comments and then continue in email and real life, sometimes for years.

I am tremendously grateful for my health and that of my children.

I wish just a little bit that this panopticon were more manageable.

I write about things that most people don’t talk about, and sometimes that hurts more than it helps. So many of you have written to say that some aspect of the exchanges here has had a positive effect on your life, or at least lessened the feeling that you are alone in your mistakes, worries, stresses, and, yes, joys. It’s what keeps me going and why I’m still writing here after eight years.

Have to admit that my skin is a little thin just now, so I will wish you well and slip away for a bit. That last string of comments about my sad, tired life that I seem to enjoy rather than admit I’m a failure and an unfit parent parading men through the house, well… no thank you. I defended, and shouldn’t have. Never feed the trolls.

Anyway, I don’t feel much like hanging around here, and will try to enjoy the rest of the year with my loved ones.

I hope you do the same.

Yes, starve the trolls. I do hope you and the family are able to enjoy the holidays together. Thinking good thoughts for you all as the new year comes! I’ll miss your writings (for the time being) - but hope the break will restore your creative genius.

A big holiday hug to you and I hope you enjoy your time with your family.

True to form, I missed all the hubub. I’ll just say “wow.” And I am glad your toilet is working again. Sounds like the extra flush power came just in time.

Respectfully saluting you, moi.

Oh, did things get nasty in the comment arena?  I missed that, and I’m so sorry.  Thanks for being so open and infusing some reality into our overly decorated world.  Unfortunately, truth is a dangerous concept for some.  Know that you are just a good little billy goat (hope you don’t mind the analogy) or Dora the Explorer just trying to cross that little bridge.  Trolls will be trolls, but I suppose every good story needs an ugly, unlovable villain.  Sorry you got hurt, and I hope you will continue to blog undaunted.  And, frankly, before reading your blog, I thought we were the only family to contemplate all noodle dinners without even the luxury of butter sauce.  I know “the whole world is feeling it,” but I have yet to find someone in my universe who is willing to discuss the specifics that their soon-to-be-maxed charge cards hide.  I wish you a happy holiday filled with peace and joy with your wonderfully vibrant love ones.

Merry Christmas Mindy.  Hope you’re having a great time with your kids and family.  I spent too many hours this afternoon watching Desperate Housewives of OC and I swear some of them have been leaving comments on your blog.  The stuff they said was cruel and catty.  Don’t lose any sleep over their comments.  It’s THEIR kids that I worry about - having them as parents/relatives.  It’s tougher than ever to find a job with unemployment at 12%.  How can a single mom take a job at Walgreens if it doesn’t pay enough to cover daycare expenses for 3 kids?  They don’t know your life in it’s entirety.  You don’t put everything in your blog so they are passing judgment on a few pieces from your overall puzzle.  Despite your money issues, your kids are getting a valuable lesson on financial responsibility.  When they grow up, they will not squander their money.  They will appreciate it and be wise with it because they know what it’s like not to have it.  That’s the silver lining.  They will look back on this someday and appreciate their humble beginnings.  Ignore the negative comments.  They aren’t worth your time.

Don’t let the ass-hat trolls get you down.  Have a Merry Christmas and Here’s to 2010!!!!!!!

(I want to be done with 2009; on top of everything else, my hubby wrecked his truck tonight. SOOOOO ready for 2010)

OMG, I loved the little bit I read on your blog. Just found you, and you seem to have a similar sarcastic, yet real,  outlook on life as I do. I appreciate your sense of humor, and love of your children. I will be trying to keep up in the future…..

I’m glad you talk about the things other people don’t.  That’s why I read you!

Happy Holidays and may a new decade bring many more wonderful experiences for you and yours (which I secretly hope you’ll share with us so I can feel like I’m not so alone in the triumphs and tribulations of parenting these days).

HI Mindy! Mean people suck. It takes alot of guts and valor to kick down a single mom making the best of a hard time in her life. You do it all with grace and humor and that is why I love reading your blog.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your family and can set aside the crap for awhile. We are all so grateful you put your emotions on the line for the rest of us to read. You make me feel not so alone out here.

Hugs and love,
Atomic Momma

Hope you have a good time! Blogging can indeed be hurtful. You are putting yourself out there, and this makes you vulnerable.

I think it’s very important for blog visitors to keep in mind that you’re a guest on a blog and to treat the blogger with courtesy.

So, you just keep on bloggin!

I hope that you ended up having a Merry Christmas Mindy! Don’t let the trolls get to you. They are probably miserable in their own lives and are just taking it out on you or they have never experienced financial hardship. Also they are probably jealous of your beautiful trip! You just need to take care of yourself and your family. You are a very strong woman and everything will work out in the end. I think we need to put 2009 behind us and get ready for a great 2010!!

Mindy -

Opinions are like a$$holes - everybody’s got one.  But most of them stink.  Don’t give up on your “Constant Readers” - we all so enjoy and appreciate the fact that you open your heart and soul to us… sometimes in a humorous way, sometimes in a way that makes us cry, but always in a beautiful way.  You brighten my day every time that you post.
I have faith that 2010 will be better than 2009 - doesn’t it almost have to be?!?
Please don’t withdraw… keep slugging, and punching, and continue to get up one more time than you get knocked down.
Love you!

Cheers!

Ignore those that are not brave enough to tell it like it is….they too have held me up for far too long.  You are a great mom, a wonderful writer and have brought me hope that I too can battle on!  My year has been through bankruptcy, a new baby, having a negative checking account balance more months than a positive one, the loss of my job, the start of the “what the hell are we going to do now” days, the illness of the baby, husbands transfer to a new location and so many people wanting to give me their opinions of what I was doing wrong, badly or how my kids were going to be effected by this that they honestly just started sounding like the adults in a Peanuts cartoon.  Power on…...at least the great thing about the bottom is that you can only go up from there….:o)
