“Mom, where are the drinks you bought today?”

“Aren’t they on the counter? Or the butcher block?”

”…”

“Hon, have you looked on all the kitchen surfaces?”

“Yes.”

I came out and confirmed that there were no drinks on the counters. “Here, take my car keys and see if we left them on the seat or the floor.”

He came in a minute later, dejected. “I didn’t find them. And Mom?”

“Yes?”

“Please don’t go right back out and find them and make me feel like an idiot, okay?”
