Fraud-prevention pitchman becomes ID theft victim

This guy BEGGED people to try to steal his identity, marching through crowded cities, bellowing his Social Security number through a bullhorn. He may as well have had his Social Security card made into a business card. I don’t even want to think about how much money he spent daring someone to rip him off.

Still, it took two years–TWO YEARS, mind you–for someone to do it. This man had mad PR skillz and really couldn’t have made it any easier for someone to steal his identity if so inclined.

Now will everyone please stop going on about mommy bloggers endangering their loved ones? Thank you.

I still get, "Now, is that Roberts with an "s" at the end?

I went by an alias online for years, not b/c I was afraid of someone finding out my name. Because who would believe my real name is Pepper. You know if you google my name I get a lot of recipes. LOL

But! By this time next summer, there will be a slew of babies named Pepper, thanks to Gwyneth Paltrow’s role in Iron Man.

The thing is, we’re all pretty google-able or stalkable even without blogs. It kind of horrifies me, actually. The stuff I write on my (anonymous) blog is much less revealing that all my f*ing real estate records and birth date, which are all online.

On the other hand, I had a mini-stalker last fall who was able to figure out all my work stuff (under my maiden name) but was unable to connect it to my private life (lived under my married name).

mindy,
what a fun blog!  love that you have a picture of yourself...i think it makes a person’s writing more human...that said, i’m totally with you on those attacking mommybloggers for “endagering their children”...it’s very clear that you’re blog is an extension of your passion for your children, and they should be so lucky to have you care so much…
it’s the same reason i started one: to celebrate my love for the baby my fiance and i are expecting!!
keep doing what you’re doing, it’s great!
maybe i’ll see you at Blogher…
