Thisputthesprinklesonmyday

I just returned from the State Court of Appeals where I was sworn in by a judge (in robes, no less) for a recorded session in which I was to present testimony and supporting evidence to show that I did not intentionally and willfully defraud the State of California of $150 in overpaid unemployment benefits way back in 1996.

Good grief, Charlie Brown.

what is that dark cloud and why is it following me?

Even if you had, hasn’t the staute of limitations run out? You could have robbed a bank of a lot more money than that and probably gotten away with it if they couldn’t indict you in time. Crazy.

Did the judge make a ruling?

Not yet… he said that there would be a judgement sent out, but not today. It was very scripted and lengthy and scary. I didn’t think something like that could rattle me, but it did—badly.

I don’t care about the money, I just don’t want to have a record of fraud. I paid the bloody money back, plus 30% in penalties, can we just get past it? It was a dispute between my employer and me, and we will never agree on the date. I gave in and paid up.

How much money could they have saved by spending their time on something useful.

Um yeah—you think maybe they could figure the cost of processing all that, vs the $ you actually pay, then go with whatever is most cost effective.

Sorry for the crappy sprinkles.

Oy!  I spent eight hours spread over two evenings last week at driving school because of a speeding ticket.  I’m telling you, we plumbed the depths of lameitude and still didn’t reach the bottom.  I fear that our government doesn’t function at ANY level.

Which is maybe why Bossy lives in the ineffectual NorthEast.

I understand about setting standards and fair play and one-law-for-all and such, but really: How many multiples of $150 were spent to ask you that question? Bah.

. . $150.00 that was already paid back (with penalties) . . that’s waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more important than any other issue facing the california employement folks, or our judicial system, for that matter.

I am so sorry you had to deal with that.  We need to burn some incense or SOMETHING to try and get rid of that little rain cloud following you around!

Hang in there. . . there are only so many bone-head angencies in this state, and most of them have already bothered you, so the list of those remaining is small . .

I meant “employment” (not employement) . .

and “agencies” (not angencies)..

I guess I should start using spell-check.
