Re: Stomach Flu

Um, hello? Enough already! Gil and I have been taking turns staying home for five days already with a vomiting Daphne, and, really, for two whole weeks altogether because her brothers had it the week before. And, if I check my archives, I bet I will find that she had it first sometime the week before last.

I took her to school this morning because she was perky yesterday and because she ate a HUGE breakfast this morning—I couln’t get it in front of her fast enough, she was squirming in her chair and hopping up and down for the fork—all good signs.

Then eleven o’clock rolled around and the school called to say that she was running a fever. I rushed the fifteen miles from the office and walked into the classroom to hear her screaming and retching in the little bathroom right in sight and hearing of all the other children trying to eat lunch.

I cleaned her up, soothed her, promised to take her home and cuddle up, and then she threw up all over me. Arrrrggghhh. I cannot even imagine what it is like to be her right now. Even Ms. Antonella commented on her poor bony body and gaunt little face. I really thought she was better. And I have rescheduled two meetings in particular three times each, sure that this would follow the usual twenty-four hour pattern.

But that would be other people’s luck.

And now? I don’t know if it is psychsomatic, but I am feeling a little queasy myself. I have changed into jammies and will snuggle up in the big yellow chair with my daughter until we both fall asleep…

Later: We just returned from a trip to Dr. Mike’s, where they gave Daphne a big ole antibiotic shot in the thigh for her ear infection and probable labrynthitis; and then hauled ass (we were twenty minutes late) to Dylan’s Mother’s Day tea party, where he served me strawberry shortcake and lemonade. We’re home now and I am still totally breaking a sweat.

Dylan made me a card with a letter inside and a framed photo of himself.

I said how nice it was that he gave me a pink shirt, because it’s my favorite color, and he said, “Naw, that’s not a shirt. I just put pink in there so you’d like it.”

I do.

had it up to here with the Big Pink Bowl (but not the pink shirt)

Oh no, poor thing!  You’ve had more than you fair share of vomit lately. :(
