WhyILoveMyFriends

I have come to recognize something that I have always believed, though on a more subtle level: I have some of the best, truest, most thoughtful friends. When they aren’t offering to do nice things or cheer me up, they are unrelentingly merciless in their teasing. I have a few IM exchanges in the hopper, and I’ll be posting them here.

You’ll all be jealous. But not maliciously jealous, because you’re all good friends, too.

I’m the luckiest girl in the world.

HeadandShoulders

And just in case you don’t believe me? About the clingy-mommy-hold-me thing?

Here’s a look at how I spend my time at Logan’s t-ball games. Since Dylan and Daphne have trouble sharing my lap without poking or kicking or head-butting, I have resorted to stowing one child on my shoulders so the other can have the lap.

Charming, no?

TwoBrightSpots

Two things happened this week that made me feel all lovey and squishy inside. One saddened me a bit at the time, and the other is still warming me.

The first happened on Monday, when it was time for me to get ready for work. The children were snuggling in bed with me and were clamoring for more Mommy time as I peeled myself from clinging arms and legs to turn on the shower.

Dylan followed me there and held onto me as we waited for the water to warm. “Don’t get in the shower, Mommy. Don’t go to work.” I said, “Honey, I need to go to work, I can’t do anything to change that. But I will be out of the shower in a few minutes and we can snuggle again then.”

I stepped out of my jammies and into the shower, and as just I stood under the spray, I noticed that the crying had stopped. I peeked over at Dylan just in time to see him making a little nest of my still-warm pajamas and settling down in them to wait.

The other bright moment occurred just a short while ago. Our web consultant came looking for my officemate, who has been felled by migraines over and over during the current deadline crush and was recovering at home. He hovered a bit, wanting to say something but not knowing how.

I asked him to come in and close the door. I said, “Look, I don’t want to you feel you are bothering me. I have had my door shut a lot lately, and I don’t want you to think I am hiding from you, or anyone in particular. I have a lot of work to do, and things at home are highly stressful as well, and will be for a while. I’m hiding from everyone, actually, but you can always just come in if you need something.”

He looked both relieved and worried, and replied, “Well, if there is anything I can do to help, in any way, please ask.”

So, I filled him in a bit. He stood there, looking sad and awkward, wanting to say something more but feeling the professional boundaries.

After a few minutes, he said, “Let me say something, for my own good. When I started here, no one was beating me with cudgels or anything, but there weren’t warm waves of welcome washing over me, either. People were uneasy about their jobs. But you were the first to roll out the welcome mat, and the first to help me feel comfortable, and to make me look good, and to help people think that I can do more than move a mouse around and click here and there. I want you to know that I appreciated it, and I want to help in any way I can to make things feel better for you.”

And you know? I feel better already.

CurseoftheClowns

I will never, ever trifle with clowns again. Just look at the havoc they have wrought:

First , drama!!

Then, disappearing comments!!

We lost nearly 200 ‘kus yesterday when my new WordPress site, The Dojo, decided to stop displaying all the comments. All of those brilliant, brilliant ‘kus. Gone. Forever.

But there’s hope, right? I’ll bet someone will read my plea on the support forum and come to my rescue! Right? Right??

***

UPDATE: The curse is lifted!! The support forum came through, and suggested I query the phpMyAdmin database to see if the comments were there but not showing due to a server error, and voila! There they were!

And just to show you all how dedicated I am, and how much I care about preserving some of the best ‘kuage EVAH (and some of the best drama), I edited them all and put them into their own little page here. All of the haiku from Week 12 are here.

Amalah, I think this can still go down in history as The Lost Smackdown...

The comments in the smackdown entry below continue the love.

I am honored to be selected as the first Haiku Grandmaster outside of the Judith Light Brigade to host the Thurday Haiku Smackdown!

This week’s smackdown is taking place at The Dojo, a little site I whipped up especially for the occasion. Come on over, limber up, and show us your stuff, yo!
